Enjoying some time off, but still carving out moments to write. This came into my head while I swayed in a wooden rocking chair, it’s brightly colored slats faded by the seasons. The chair’s gate was a bit wobbly as I pushed myself up and down with one leg. I’m in the front garden of a friend’s house, gratefully borrowed for the holiday. The sky’s are cloudy and the wind’s a little chilly, but the creeping ivy and redbrick patio feel just about right.

Stealing into a hotel pool.
Free breakfast for a smile.
Long, lingering twilights,
Full of celebratory sights.
Respites, breaks and interludes.
Moments of leisure:
Those infinite loops,
And seconds to be squandered.
Time’s friendly embrace,
On a warm summer’s day;
It’s why we shrug off winter,
In favor of a holiday.
